FutureLink - 7th graders are invited to a attend two STEM related speakers at Frederick Community College
Science Olympiad - Mr. A is the head coach of our two teams. UMS has been in the least the top five teams in the state. We have placed first and second for the last two years at the Frederick County Invitational and first in the Regional meet.
Science Fair - Mr. A. organizes the school's Science Fair. Many go on to the county fair. Some students have participated in the National Broadcom Masters Program. UMS earned a $500 grant for have the highest participation at the county .
Earth Space Science Lab- 8th grade HAL science students are invited to attend a a special field trip to the lab every other year.
STEM Day with the KEYS - 6th grade field trip in late spring
National Cryptologic Museum field trip - The 8th grade Algebra or Geometry students participate in a scavenger hunt and code breaking session.
Newseum field trip - Geometry and UMSTV students tour facility and participate in a Photo ethics workshop.
Trout in the Classroom - Student raise Kamloop Rainbow trout from Washington state and release them in a local stream. Students care for the fish, from eggs to juvenile stage by maintaining water quality. Students also tour Maryland's Albert Powell Fish Hatchery.
Ecology Club - Mr. Isleib is the adviser to this after school club. They built and maintain the nature trail, planted trees, and are stewards to our pond.
